Pace Calculator

Calculate running or walking pace, time, and distance

On this device

What does this calculator do?

Calculate running or walking pace, finish time, and distance in one unit-aware workspace.

Inputs

  • Any two of distance, elapsed time, and pace
  • Distance and pace units

Outputs

  • The missing value
  • Equivalent pace and speed values for comparison

Formula and method

Pace = elapsed time ÷ distance. Distances are converted to kilometres internally and times to seconds.

Worked example

Running 5 km in 30 minutes gives a pace of 6:00 min/km.

How to interpret the result

A lower time per distance means a faster pace. Results are estimates when the entered distance or time is rounded.

Common mistakes

  • Mixing miles and kilometres
  • Entering minutes as decimal hours
  • Using zero distance

Assumptions

  • The route distance is the distance travelled
  • No elevation, wind, or terrain adjustment is applied

Limitations

  • This is not a training or medical recommendation
  • Split prediction assumes a constant pace

Frequently asked questions

How is pace calculated?

Divide elapsed time by distance, after converting both to compatible units.
