Scientific Calculator
Full scientific calculator with advanced functions
What does this calculator do?
Evaluate arithmetic, trigonometric, logarithmic, exponential, and root expressions with standard operator precedence.
Inputs
- A mathematical expression
- Optional angle mode: degrees, radians, or gradians
Outputs
- A numeric result
- A readable expression and local calculation history
Formula and method
Expressions are parsed by a deterministic recursive-descent parser. Trigonometric functions convert the selected angle mode to radians before evaluation.
Worked example
sin(90) in DEG mode = 1. 2 + 3 × 4 = 14 because multiplication is evaluated before addition.
How to interpret the result
The displayed value is rounded for readability; very large or very small values use scientific notation. Domain errors are reported instead of returning NaN.
Common mistakes
- Forgetting a closing parenthesis
- Using degrees when the expression is in radians
- Expecting percentage postfix to mean a business discount
Assumptions
- Calculations use IEEE-754 JavaScript numbers
- No time, currency, or physical-unit interpretation is inferred
Limitations
- Finite precision can affect the last displayed digits
- Complex numbers and symbolic algebra are not supported
Frequently asked questions
How is a scientific calculator different from a basic calculator?
It evaluates functions such as trigonometry, logarithms, powers, roots, and factorials in addition to basic arithmetic.
Is my expression sent to a server?
No. The parser and calculation run locally in your browser.
